Welcome to SUNY Geneseo Inter-Greek Council
The vision of the Inter Greek Council of the State University of New York College at Geneseo is to celebrate life-long fraternal and sororal bonds while continuing to grow through academics, campus involvement, community service, leadership and social engagements; while further recognizing the responsibility of each member and member organization to serve as role models and promote these opportunities to the College community to further its development.

What is IGC? |
History of Geneseo Greek Community |
IGC is a diverse group of Greek Students that govern Geneseo's Greek community.Fraternity and sorority members share service, scholastic, social, athletic, and leadership experiences. On a yearly basis Greeks participate in numerous service events to give back to their community, including the Day of Caring, Relay for Life, a canned food drive, and numerous other service projects within every organization.

For the past 140 years, Greek organizations have played a prominent role at SUNY Geneseo. The first fraternities and sororities appeared in Geneseo in the 1870s and were originally formed as literary societies. They were formed to provide a place for social interaction and learning of the classics.
The Inter-Greek Council was established in 1915 to provide a governing body for the Greek organizations at that time. The original members were Delphic, Phi Kappa Pi, Phi Alpha, Agonian, and Arethusa. To join IGC, a Greek letter organization must petition for membership and apply for College recognition. |

Fundamentals of our Greek Community
Leadership: As a member of Greek life, you can gain experience in leadership within your organization, IGC, or Panhellenic boards. Many opportunities are avalible through different levels of leadership. Leadership is an important life skill that can be developed within a greek organization.
Scholarship: Geneseo's Greek community was founded on the principle of academic success. Members are encouraged to strive for scholarly excellence through incentive programs, study partners, workshops, study hours, and national recognition. Members are rewarded for their academic achievements through chapter events and by membership in the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Each fraternity and sorority maintains internal academic standards that all members are expected to achieve.
Community Service: Service to others and the community is part of everyday life in the Greek community. Each organization sponsors a philanthropy of their choice, and work hard to support it. Geneseo Greeks support local and campus community by being involved in volunteer activities such as reading to children, organizing events for a local senior care facility, serving in a soup kitchen, clothing drives, and doing a clean-up at a local park. Annually, Greeks are the largest source of donations and participation for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Day of Caring.
Campus Involvement: Fraternity and sorority members may be found in all parts of campus life. Being apart of the Greek community can give you access to connections throughout campus to be more involved. From the Student Association to Resident Assistants, Orientation Advisors, Intramural Sports, Honor Societies, as student staff in many offices and departments, varsity sports and throughout the student organizations found on campus. No matter where you look you will most likely find a member of Greek life working hard to ensure the campus remains a vibrant and diverse place of learning for students.
